Tips to Glow Up in the Second Half of 2024
Can you believe we are already halfway through the year? If you are feeling the summer heat 🔥 coming with the urge to refresh, you are not alone. Fret not, your Bestie, me is here with a guide to help you glow up and shine brighter for the rest of the year! ☺️
Ready? Let’s dive in!
Treat Your Skin Right
Taking care of your skin is key to looking and feeling your best. You do not need a complex skincare ritual with high-end products to get healthy skin. Instead, a simple, holistic routine done right can be more effective than you think. Make sure you do not overlook the basics below in your routine.
Knowing Your Skin Type: Did you know that your skin type can change over the years? Knowing your skin type and choosing proper beauty products for your routine is very crucial. If you're unsure about your skin type, consider taking a few online tests to help determine it.
Sun Protection: Always apply sunscreen and/or use a face mask and jacket to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. It helps you prevent premature aging! If you are still worried and want to go an extra mile to keep your skin firm, you can consider taking in some collagen as well.
Hydration: Keep your skin hydrated by drinking enough water, especially during the hot summer days. It's so simple yet we all tend to overlook it. Drinking enough water not only helps with your skin but it's essential for your health!
Pampering It: Treat yourself a facial or a home spa day once a week to pamper your skin and let yourself indulge in a rejuvenating experience after a long day. It's self-love, you deserve it!
Get Moving & Grooving
Physical activity is essential for a healthier you. Regular exercise not only helps you stay fit but also boosts your mood and energy, giving you that natural glow. Consider:
Cardio Workouts: Running, dancing, cycling, or even a brisk walk can do wonders for your health. Aim for at least 30 minutes of cardio a few times a week.
Strength Training: Incorporate bodyweight exercises like squats, push-ups, or light weights to build muscle and increase metabolism.
Yoga and Stretching: Not only does yoga improve flexibility, but it also helps with stress relief.
Pro tips for newbies: Consistency is key but if you simply cannot start doing it due to the lack of motivation and energy, try to schedule it after your morning coffee or whenever you can put yourself in a more energetic mode (says, turning up your jams). It will give you a little boost for kick-starting. After things have been easier, set up a fixed time slot for these activities and try to keep a streak like the Duolingo owl is watching you!
Prioritize Your Mental Wellness
A true glow-up isn’t just about physical appearance; your mental health is equally important. Here are some activities to help you stay mentally fit:
Practice Mindfulness: Spending a few minutes each day practicing mindfulness or meditation can help cleanse your mind and leave room for more positivity to come in. Apps like Headspace or Calm can be helpful to get you started.
Journal Your Thoughts: Writing down your thoughts, goals, and things you’re grateful for can help clear your mind and focus on the positive.
Stay Connected: Make time to catch up with friends and family. Whether it’s a coffee date or a quick video call, staying socially connected can boost your mood. You look better with that smile!
Relax and Recharge: Don't forget to take breaks throughout the day to relax and recharge after your hyper focus time. Read a book, listen to music, or take a walk in nature. Make time for the things that make you happy!
Enjoy What You Eat
Your diet plays a huge role in your overall well-being. Here’s how to maintain a balanced diet while still enjoying your favorite foods:
Eat Balanced Meals: Ensure your meals include a good mix of lean proteins, whole grains, healthy fats, and colorful fruits and veggies.
Stay Hydrated (Again): Drink plenty of water throughout the day. For a twist, try infusing your water with fresh fruits or herbs to add more flavors and vitamins.
Moderation is Key: You do not need to sacrifice all your favorite food for a fit body. In fact, having that piece of chocolate or your favorite laksa in proper moderation does not affect your diet. It actually helps with your mental wellness because eating the food you love also enhances your mood, and makes your fit journey becomes more enjoyable.
If you are not confident about your diet plan, use this Calorie & BMI Calculator to plan your calorie intake and consider incorporating the LEAN UP Calorie Burning Juice (which I have previously reviewed in another blogpost) to help burn an additional 180 kcal/day. It is pretty high up on the list of my weight management drinks to consume!
Remember, glowing up is a journey, not a race. It is all about making small, consistent changes that lead to a healthier, happier you.
We hope that by following these tips, you will set yourself up for success in both your physical and mental health.
